In the late 1960s, most of Kingston's historic downtown Rondout district was demolished in a federally funded urban renewal project, displacing thousands of residents and businesses. Based mainly on hundreds of slides taken by Gene Dauner , Lost Rondout: A Story of Urban Removal commemorates the vanished community, examines the unfulfilled promises of urban renewal and its devastating impact on residents, and describes urban renewal's troubled legacy, in a narrative that played out across America. The film, which is just over an hour long and has an original soundtrack by Peter Wetzler, has just been completed.
