About Onteora Lake Hike: We will explore this often overlooked local treasure,
and learn about the history, and diverse ecology of this beautiful site. The
route selected is 3 miles long, and covers gentle rolling terrain. We will
discuss how man has impacted the landscape of this site, from bluestone
quarries to blueberry cultivation, and how nature has responded to those
impacts. Comfortable and sturdy footwear
should be worn, sunscreen, and insect repellant are advised. We will stop at a
backcountry campsite for a snack, and
discussion of our observations.
